Tableau Project: Profit-Sales Dashboard & Discount Story

Tableau

Project details

Description - Part 1

This interactive dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of sales performance, profitability, and regional trendsacross the U.S. market. Using Tableau, I designed multiple KPI indicators and analytical visuals, including:

  • Key Metrics: Quantity (37,873), Total Sales ($2.29 M), and Profit ($286 K)
  • Profit by Region and State: Visualized through a U.S. map to highlight geographic performance differences
  • Sales by Segment: Consumer (50.56%), Corporate (30.74%), Home Office (18.70%)
  • Profit by Sub-category and Sales Trends: Bar and line charts show monthly growth and product-level profitability

The dashboard allows users to interactively filter by year and analyze profit contribution by region, segment, and category.
It demonstrates my ability to build data-driven executive dashboards that support business decisions and performance monitoring.

Description - Part 2

This Tableau Story explores the relationship between discount rate and profitability and reveals how discount strategies affect sales, quantity, and profit ratios.
Each slide builds on analytical findings derived from the Superstore dataset:

  • As discount rates increase, the profit-to-sales ratio decreases, consistent across all years.
  • Discounts show no consistent positive impact on sales; for most categories, the effect is neutral or negative.
  • Higher discounts do not increase quantity sold, indicating limited price elasticity.
  • The impact of discounts varies by category. For example, Technology shows some growth at moderate discounts, while Furniture and Office Supplies do not benefit.
  • Overall conclusion: Discounting hurts profits significantly and offers limited sales benefits.

This project demonstrates advanced skills in analytical storytelling and data interpretation within Tableau, connecting quantitative insights to strategic business decisions.
